In Weddings do you shoot 24p or 30p or 60?
 

Hi guys,

I just want to know what do you use in shooting weddings?
I have a 7D and 5D and I shoot with 30p and 60i. for 30p and 60i, in post I render in 24p.
i just want to get an idea who shoots in 24p on the field and what are the benefits of doing this? Considering we can shoot in 30p and we are editing in post anyways.

We shoot in 24p on the Canon 7D because we like the film look and we'd rather not have to convert footage in post .. which takes time ... and time is money.

Is there any particular reason you're adding the extra conversion step?

Maybe its just me. I wanted more frames. Like for example, if you want to do a slow mo , in 30p you get more frames to stretch than in 24p. Im not a techie guy, so I might be wrong. 60i I think , I will only shoot for the purpose of slowmo. I havent used it on actual shoot.
Also, there could be a part on a video where film look doesn't really fit (in my opinion). For example, like opening of gifts or maybe a candid conversation while in the makeup room.

Im a newvbie so I could be wrong.

I just want to get an idea how would a video 24p look like on actual wedding.

Travis - are most of your videos shot on 24p? what is your NLE?are those color graded as well or just straight from 7D?

have you tried shooting 720p60, just to add to your confusion :-)?
It has a really crisp look to it, great for slo mo!

I shoot 24p. I like the way it looks and it forces me to be more creative in my shooting and editing since, IMO, 24p looks awful slowed down.

That was a personal decision because I found myself slowing down every other shot and making it B&W. I was in a rut and it wasn't helping my creativity.

Another reason is because it's different from what all the other video guys in my area are doing. They're in the 60i or 60p mode. And that's fine... but I want my stuff to be different and catchy, not like everybody else's.

My 7D doesn't have 60i. Does yours? Does your 5D?

I have an HMC150, and I shoot in 720 60p. It's sharp and if I ever needed to use slow motion (which I do frequently) I have the extra frames so it doesn't look bad.

We've been shooting everything at 24p for at least 5-6 years now. We use Final Cut Pro and everything is color-graded in post. We try to achieve a fairly neutral image with the highest dynamic range possible during the shoot, so that we have more latitude in post.

25p / 50p because I'm in the UK :)

Thanks for the tip. I must remember the 25p, for PAL, thingamabob. I would have put 24.

I shot in 30p all the time. I like the progressive look. 60i is too video-ish. I shootin in 60i when I plan a particular scene will be rendered in slow motion.

btw, did you get good result by converting 30p/60i to 24p? It seems throwing away frames and that's not even real 24p =)

how does your 720p 60 look like? I've heard that it's quite different from 1080..

I find that during any movement (dancing) the 24p footage looks herky jerky so I shoot that in 30p. I may shoot the brides prep in 24p and some 30p

Then how you deliver the final DVD? Is it in 24p, 30p in 60i? or 24p with pulldowns?

I think my only problem with 24p is that when in post we want a slow motion effect. It doesnt look good.
