Windy weddings

I'll split this off from another thread. How do you folks handle windy weddings? I used Rycote furry windprotectors on both lavs and shots but still got nailed with noise. Granted, it was blowing about 20 miles an hour. Maybe that is just too much?

Tricks??

It could get worse than wind. At my wedding, there wasn't just an airplane flying overhead during the vows, but motorboats too.

It was on a river in the middle of the Ocala National Forest, and my amature friend shot the wedding for me. No mics, other than the one on his mini VHS cam. You could hear my dogs howling in the background, comments from the guests, and most of the vows. My wife was overly soft spoken at that moment, so you kind of lose her at times. When the planes and boats go by, you lose everything.

Try and edit that!

Are you telling me that nature is more powerful than I??

I don't believe it....

wire the lav up to the groom UNDER the jacket. The jacket will act as a windbreak

on shotguns, the only option sis either a softie, or a foam windsock with a wraparound softie.

Rycote make some good windjammers and softies.

I've used multiple mics pointed slightly different. For sure 1 on officiant and 1 on groom if not 2 on each. The different direction may allow 1 that the wind is blocked from hitting to get better audio.eg. the wind is blowing directly in the B&G 's face...... the mic on the groom pickup alot of wind( even close micing won't stop it) but the wind is at the officiant's back so the mic on the officiant is blocked and gets better audio.
Record some wind only as well and even though it may not help much it may help a bit to run this through SF.
.....or build a wind wall

Something to consider , I have actually added a little wind , some bird chirps etc.If that is they way it was as long as the vows, music, etc are good a little wind adds a bit realism to the scene.
