Here's another slant on this....

I film less footage than most folks seem to (judging by the concurrent thread that is going on now about "Pro Res File size").

I really do try to film only what I'm going to use in either the highlights or the "running footage" or both. My final product includes a 15 minute more "cinematic" highlights and a 90-120 minute "running footage". If the client asks for raw footage, I can tell them honestly that they have it in their chapterized "running footage". (Of course, I've cleaned up the actual raw footage by taking out cam shakes at start/stops, etc., but it's still for all intents and purposes everything).

In other words: I really do try to imagine the final product and edit as I press "record" and end up with only a couple hours of footage for a given wedding.

If a potential client says going in that they expect 7 hours of video out of 6 hours of coverage, I tell them going in that I don't work that way.
