Steadicam or Tripod or Monopod (HDSLR & NXCAM)?

Hi.. We have 2 video teams. One for creative cinematography who uses 5D Mark III and another team for documentary long type videos , who will use a Sony HXRNX5 camcorder.

So, Im thinking what to get for stabilisation for both the teams.

I was thinking to get Steadicam for 5D Mark III and a Video Tripod for Sony NXCAM.

Let me know.

Stabilization should be based on the story you're telling, so it all depends on a shot by shot basis. If you want the documentary to be boring than sure you can always use tripods, but you can make a documentary with more than that. You don't always have to use a glidecam to make everything cinematic.

Documentary -- can get by with shoulder mount the entire day, but best to add tripods as well.

Cinematic -- monopod, steadicam (unvested is a lot more flexible), slider, crane, tripod -- everything except shoulder mount.
