I too had a bad Rode XLR/mini plug as well, drove me nuts figuring out the problem.

I threw it away, it was so inexpensive. I bought two of them over a year ago from B&H, so it seemed pointless to replace spend time getting it replaced. Quicker to just get a new one, at least for me.
