Re: What is 'A Film Like Look'?

Apologies on walking out on this thread, but I am due to fly off to the US for my first ever visit in a few hours, so need some sleep. Not sure if I will have time while I am there to catch up on the forum, so this thread may have disappeared when I get back on the 11th.

Regards to all,

Roger

Film look is none of the above. Video we shoot today has more dynamic range than most pre 1970's color film. No one complains the deep focus in Citizen Kane isn't "filmic". "Film look" results from the way film is projected: 2X or 3X each 24 fps frame. Computers can't do this. Reverse telecine your footage and show it in a theater: film look.

I don't think that's what people making short films or wedding videos are referring to. I doubt many wedding videos are shown on actual film, but film makers are still after a look that is similar to film even when played on a 40 inch tv.

Many (most?) films aren't shown on actual film in a movie theatre any more let alone DVD & Blu-ray on the TV at home.
