Sony CX730 on Ebay UK

I know a few of you have expressed an interest so if you are looking - one on ebay.co.uk at the moment (not one of mine - I'm keeping hold of them)

Can I ask what the asking price is? Just curious.

Its an auction with 5 days remaining noa - starting bid is £550 or so,

The last one Peter posted which I forgot about after checking all week (grrrrr) ended up going for not much more than the starting bid.

I'm not sure now though...

I may stick with 6D main cam, and go for a second CX900 or even AX100

Or I may get another cheap wee CX730 and put the money into switching from 6D to the GH4 or A7S.

Too much to consider right now!

Pete, I think you've been a user of the Panasonic TM range as b-cams as well? What is it about the CX730 that you like that you weren't getting with those?

Pete

I have a TM900 as a B camera, works good for me.

Hi All - the current bid is £549

Peter I was using 2 TM900 cameras as b-cams but the footage from the CX730 cameras match my Sony EA50 (and also my CX700 emergency backup camera) I had to tweak the TM900 cams in post whereas now not so much - they all have an Exmor sensor so I'm guessing this has a bearing on it. I did love the TM900 cams though - I'd say the CX730 resolves about the same amount of detail. I'd never use anything else other than a small sensor camera for unattended - they're gold as safety shots

I also like that I can grab one and do some emergency hand held because the stabilisation is frankly amazing. It has expanded focus which is handy plus I'd say it's slightly better in low light.

I think the days of wonder stabilization are over, now Sony is moving to a larger sensor with their handicam style camera's it looks like that floating eyeball thing is something is technically not possible to build, there was a moment when I was thinking of selling my cx730's but they get used so much (for wedding ceremony and danceperformances, even used them to shoot a fashion show on a catwalk recently) I can easily get one to two extra years of use out of them.

I have two 730s for B and C cameras that hardly need any tweaks on the timeline when used indoors. Outside, they are fine and the stabilization is great. When on the move, I have a 730 on a sawn off monopod, about a foot long so balance is perfect.
As long as I have a Panasonic AC160 as my main cam, I will keep the 730s as they really cut well with the 160 and they allow me to move. Much better than walking about outside with the heavier 160.
In fact, the 160 only gets used a tripod camera now for ceremony and speeches.

I'd be tempted to use the CX730 a little more (great with a little P&C pistol grip) but the zoom is a little fierce - a case of 'all or nothing' unless you use the zoom from the LCD but then it's limited to a single speed. I grabbed it for an impromptu cake cutting a few weddings back and it was a treat to use!

I suspect the CX/PJ 7xx series cams with the "BOSS" magic eyeball will remain viable options for a while for handheld... Not bad cameras, that's for certain!

While I am looking for an AX100, for what it can do, I'm sort of expecting that stabilization will again be a bit of an issue (as it is with a DSLR and the RX10). I've actually planned to keep at least one PJ7xx camera and the accessories for what IT can do!

We got spoiled by that active gimbal system a bit!
