I occasionally take a small wireless system and speaker with me if I know the venue has no PA, but I am seriously considering offering the use of a PA and twin wireless mic setup for the couple to hire for a small extra cost.

I already have the system for music work, so it won't cost me anything. It would mean that they have a good independent clean PA just for the speeches, with the sound coming from the area they are talking in rather than from a stage 50ft away or distorted sound from the ceiling.. I would of course have it wired to a voice recorder, so perfect for everyone. You can buy very effective small fold up PA systems for £200-300 that work very well for voice, perhaps that is the way to go to be sure of good recorded sound quality.
