Polite way to tell an attendee to be quiet

My latest dance recital: I'm all setup, got my area blocked off, so naturally a big burly father sits as close as possible to me and proceeds to talk while the kids are dancing. I know the proper fix is to invest in a quality remote sound recording system, but the budget and sales do not permit this.
As I sit there fuming during the early numbers, I thought of a way to defuse this guy and his baritone voice that pierced through the music.
During a quick break, I said to him, "I don't mind you talking, I honesty don't. Just be aware that everything you say is being picked up by my microphone and will be on the DVD." He didn't utter another word.

Its like at weddings:

"Your not recording are you?"

Me: "Nope, I just get paid to stand here"

"Oh good, blah blah blah!"
