Rolling Shutter
 

I got this banding from the venue lighting which must have been led. (dark rolling horizontal bands). Is there any way to fix it?

I've experienced that before with my Z7U, playing with the shutter speed solved the issue.

I was renting A7iii and only had a time to try a few settings but I couldn't get the banding to stop. I just downloaded a flicker free plugin but its not working.

Hi gents,

You're in 60 Hz lighting territory which means that NON thermal inertia lighting is a real problem, ergo: fluorescent, gas discharge and led. So called "normal" tungsten thermal lighting does not exhibit this phenomena.

If you must shoot under these conditions of non thermal inertia lighting your shutter speed must be no more than 1/60th of a second and preferably 1/30th of a second.

This of course gives rise to a heap of other problems but you'll just have to get used to it. LED lighting is here to stay and is only going to get more widespread with time.

PS: No, there's no way to fix this in post that I know of.

I already downloaded the demo and tried all the presets but it seems to be designed for rapid flickering. I emailed customer support for help.

Pete, I saw this the other day & recently noticed Premiere has a 'Rolling Shutting Repair' fixing effect. I gave it a shot but it didn't seem to do very much. I looked up this video & it seems to work for something else. https://www.google.com/search?client...OD_Qb4_6bwDQ30

I know I'm late & not sure if you're done on it, sometimes different color corrections can help lessen it or make it less noticeable (lightening, darkening).

I'm just going to leave it and wait and see if the client complains. I came up with one solution but FCPX doesn't allow image masks to be bigger than the frame. I was going to duplicate the video on a layer above, increase the brightness, then move an image mask of the banding over it (much like scrolling credits). Even if I could do this in another program its very time consuming and tricky, if the banding doesn't move a constant rate, the mask will get out of sync and become more of a distraction.

Most of the solutions I've seen are for faster banding that appears as flashing. When I did research on this I found out that the Sony A7 series is more susceptible to this slow banding because the 4k full frame takes longer to scan. Sony makes a more expensive A9 camera which I've read has a faster processor and doesn't have this problem. I've also read and my experience supports this that when consumer led lights are dimmed it increases the chances of banding.
