In long form, average number of cuts
 

All things being equal, if you had a 40 minute wedding, what do you think a good number of cuts would be, 4 angles.

Obviously I'm looking for opinions. A lot of it has to do with the flow of the wedding.

I just know that cutting from angle to angle can keep the interest. I'm looking at around 90 for this one, but I may weed out a few.

Allowing 20 sec for each angle, I'd choose a starting point of 120 cuts. Fudge a bit to allow for matching the camera angle to the audio, and I think 90 is in the ball park. That is, of course, based upon the idea that you are discussing a ceremony and not a complete day's coverage.

to be honoest, i wouldnt call 40minutes longform..
Longform IMO is anything over 90minutes, as 40 minutes really wouldnt even cover the ceremony.

5min groom
5min bride
40 min (approx) ceremony
5min photos
5minute into/entry
5 min table shots
30min speeches (approx if ur lucky)
5min bridal dance
10-20 min dancefloor highlights

shortform IMO is anythign between 20 and 60 minutes and highlights is 3 to 20 minutes

this is from numbers that seem to work for me.. i dont know bout anyone else, but im sure theirs are different

trying to work out th e number of cuts really doesnt work for me for some reason.. steve, chk ur email for a sneak peak at how many cuts i actually do on a typical 2 cam job... ;)

I would probably average 10 seconds between cuts in more of the fast paced portions, such as the vows, and 20 seconds for longer parts, such as really long readings, so overall about 15 seconds per on average.

Sorry Peter, I didn't clarify, I'm referring only to the ceremony, not everything else. Only the ceremony. By longform, I was talking about leaving the ceremony as is, not doing a 5 min version. I'll end up with about 3 hours of video by the time I'm done total with the wedding.

aaaaaaaahhhhhhh now i get ya..

yeah bout 7 to 15 seconds per cut depending on whats being said.. trying to keep it consistant and well paced is what your main goal should be... predictable but not boringly so.. when you watch it you will "FEEL" where the cut should go.. trust me, it'll happen and youll know preceisely where to cut..
Follow the audio, listen to whats being said and you'll knwo what im rambling on about.. lol

Thanks for the replies guys. I was having one of those moments 'such as looking at a word and wondering if it's spelled right, you look it up, it is, but it still looks weird, moments.'

I kept looking at the video, it seemed to flow pretty well, but well, there's that moment.
