sports event--attack question help
Attacked
Wow, here are some experience from the last weekend. Did a basketball game recording for a client. During that game, the head coach had some issues with a parent, jumped out of his bench into the bleacher, argued with the guy, showing him the door. While that was going on, I videotaped off course the event. Suddenly the second coach jumped out of the bench, came all the way up to me,(last row on top of bleachers) standing nose to nose, demanding that I stop recording, also a other female was trying to block my view. Told both to get lost (nicely) and kept rolling. Any comments, or similar experience? |
Where were the refs? The school staff? If an altercation developed, do they suppose the people in the stands are any less credible than your footage? I would think most folks there wouldn't know you from just another parent, but they have no right to shut you down anyway.

Most folks don't like having their bad behavior caught on tape. When people realize that they have screwed up, they hate having that permanent record that can and will be used against them in a court of law.

Hi Karl,
I've been lucky to have never had any such confrontations. Of course, at 6' 4" and 200 lbs, I'm seldom confronted anyway. I'm very glad that neither you, nor your equipment, got clobbered or damaged. We've certainly seen some of that on the news. (usually news folks) Harold |

Yep....i'd keep recording just as you did.
it seems that this sort of stuff is becoming more comon with kids sporting events. parents are rediculous. i would not want to shoot these type events no matter what the pay. |
I would use my monopod. I can go up over people's heads in less than a second. I believe the best way to win a fight is to avoid it altogether, but I'm not going to stop recording a potential crime. If something is happening in a public place, it is potential news. Those people were violating your first amendment rights. I don't take too kindly to people violating my constitutional rights.
