I had the Dell 23" for a while. I think the one your looking at is a lower end panel that may not handle colors as well, so I would look into that some more. At that price, you really can't go wrong. Keep in mind that the 20" higher quality model has the same resolution and a very similar price, so I myself would pick that one, but both are great values.

We have a bunch of the Dell 24" 2405FPW & 2407 FPW - Couldn't be happier.

These look like a fantastic buy! |
Good monitor for editing in terms of resolution, but definatley the 6 bit lcd panel is no good for colour correction for photos nor video imo.
For more accurate video colour representation id choose the 2007wfp/2405wfp/3007wfp/3007wfp-hc. Unfortuantely with the 2407wfp, Dell sorely missed the mark. They do use a decent 8 bit lcd panel, but the contrast/reds on taht monitor over a DVI connection is intolerable for any professional-ish work. |

NEC will be coming out with 23" and 26" color-critical displays soon. Right now they only have up to 21": http://www.necdisplay.com/products/C...etail.cfm?ID=9 |

From my personal experience, the contrast (which cannot be corrected under a DVI connection) is set too high, which makes it no good for any sort of colour correction. AND even via a VGA connection you will notice that the skin tones can be WAYYYYYY too red @ certain times. I would highly recommending test it extensively (maybe a friend of yours has one) before buying. My friend has one (A03) and to say the least all the forums were correct and I was surprised very dissapointed. I can tell you for certain that the 2405wfp A03 revision is a far better performer, and those whom I know owning both monitors 100% agree. |
LCD Monitor Help
Thanks for all the advice guys:)
I'll probably purchase whatever size LCD I can afford after taxes. That may end up being a 2" LCD screen hacked off a dead camcorder. -Mike Jensen ps. I've also heard the new Samsung 22" is supposed to compete well with the 22" Dell in the $300 - $400 range. |
If you can afford it, it may be worth looking into a large screen LCD TV like the Westinghouse 37". It's not native 1920x1080 resolution and can be purchased for around $1,000.
