Best way to Color match footage

What is the best way to color match one piece of footage with another piece of footage? I'm assuming that I'll be using the Sony Color Corrector, no? Should I somehow use the drop tool? Thanks.

Glenn Chan has some really great stuff on color correction but the short of it is
FIRST-NEVER use the computer monitor to do it (if you can at all avoid it) Use a production monitor or even a TV thru a FW pass thru-you'll see a difference.

SECOND- use the Waveform and Vectorscope to help you -they're not as complicated as we all think

THIRD-find the area you want to match to -copy it to the CLIPBOARD
(icon over the preview screen) and then place the cursor over the area you want to correct-split the screen and use the CC FX and start playing with the wheels-don't worry - you can always go back to the original. Remember, one of the droppers will get you a complitmentary color and the other the color opposite. Play play play-you can't hurt anything-gamma, gain, saturation may all be a part or the equation but then again it might be just a simple straightforward adjustment of 1 color wheel.
Have fun

Thanks Don.

2- Glenn, I have some tips here:

The DVD goes through the process in more detail and shows you how to use the Vegas interface in conjunction with that.
