Resizing question
 

Hey everyone,

I am attempting to resize a 1440x1080 into a letterbox format. I've tried using the Event/Pan crop tool I found suggested in a search for "16:9", but all that did was make my image look really small in the preview screen.

Can someone please point me the rigth way to getting a letterbox look?

Is the project 16:9?

Did you set the Crop tool to use the entire frame?

Does your clip have the correct pixel aspect ratio? Right-click on it to view its Properties.

I filmed it with a canon xh-a1 in 24f/1080i. Not knowing what these template settings meant, I tried to use the one that seemed closest to what the camera settings where. Accordingly, when I started the project in Vegas I picked the HDV 1080-24p (1440x1080, 23.976 fps) template.

I don't actually see any place where it says whether it is 16:9 or not. I know the pixel ratio is 1.333.

I'm not sure if I set the crop tool to use the entire frame or not. All I did was drag it so that the blue bar went across the full length of the clip, right clicked to get the crop tool, and then manually replaced 1440x1080 with 720x480. But all that did was make the clip in the preview window really small.
