Ah yes, makes complete sense. I have also noticed (in the last half an hour anyway!) that pre/post toggling has a significant impact on colour correction, levels and the like. Will keep experimenting.

I believe it was you, Edward, who described this as one of the best kept Vegas secrets. Certainly the help content on the subject is minimal and I can't find any reference of it in the manual.

Maybe a little definition would be in order. The pre/post toggle means what? i.e. pre what, post what?

Ian Stark October 1st, 2007 03:26 PM

Terry, according to the help info it means pre- or post-compositing, presumably meaning it's either the first thing that happens in the life of a video clip or the last thing.

Example:

Two tracks, top one contains a generated solid colour with a 50% composite envelope. If you add an effect to the bottom track you can choose the effect to be applied either before the result of the compositing has been calculated or after it. In this case it would be either before the 50% pink layer is added or after, which would have visibly different results.

. . . I think . . .

I'm sure someone will put me right!!

Hmmmmm . . . looking at it, not sure the example is very good! Come to think of it, same applies to my explanation!

Anyone? Li'l help?!
