unlinking video and audio

Good evening.

I went through the manual and can't find the answer to this.

I want to unlink the two tracks to make j cuts and to change clip speed.

I am sure it must be something simple I am missing. I even went through the vocabulary list because so many things have different terms than my old software

the more I use this software the more i like it, but what a different learning curve!!

I have three projects on the go. finished the hockey game today. Working on an ice carnival and a wedding now.. Just a tad time consumptive!!

thanks for all the help.

Right click the clip on the timeline, mouse over "group", click "remove"

As usual Vegas offers you several ways to do things.

1 - what Ron said

2 - highlight clip and hit the "u" key (for ungroup). Later, you can highlight as many audio and/or video clips as you like and hit "g" for group.

3 - there's a button on the toolbar for "temporarily ignore event grouping" that is particularly useful for J-cuts and L-cuts because it will allow you to move the cut point yet also color the audio clip with pink if you drag it out of sync with its grouped video. (or vice-versa, cut video with temporarily ungrouped audio)

The "ignore event grouping" button looks like an unlocked padlock. Keyboard shortcut is ctrl-shift-u to toggle it - very handy.
