Getting Ready For Blu-Ray-Any Tips?
In readyness for June, anybody care to post any tips on workflow and what format files should be in ready for testing?
|
OK, I'll start myself off then. Two main contenders for Blu-Ray Burners are the LG GGW-H20L or the Pioneer BDR-202. At first glance the LG is cheaper however, the Pioneer can burn re-writeable discs and is approx £20 more.
Knowing how many coasters I'm likely to make, I reckon the Pioneer with the re-writeable option, then becomes the more sensible choice. Re-Writeable discs here in the UK are around the £10 mark for TDK's. |

I'm using the Sony BWU-200S. Built it into a new pc with Vista 32bit, with no installation issues. Sony offers an on-line upgrade for the authoring software bundled with it. Not on that pc right now so I don't remember the name. It's accceptable for my use right now, though anxiously awaiting DVDA5.
You can burn direct from V8 timeline, without menus though. HC1 footage is awesome on BD played through PS3 on 50" plasma> For now I'm burning to 1920X1080i, and very pleased. Jamie |
I am using the original Sony BWU-100A burner with Vista64. It as been reliable with BD-RE media on PS3. I have burned directly from Pro 8, and Nero 8 with limited menuing, I have not attempted BD-R media yet, I am just hobbyist at this time, and have nothing worth a one-shot $13 disk.

I am looking for an external Blu-ray writer solution and it looks like the new LG one with 6x burn speed for BR-R is going to be it.
Best Buy online recently started carrying it for $449 and quickly sold out. I am on a businesss trip in Austin Texas and today saw it for $379 at Frys. I don't have a burning reason to have the burner right now so I am thinking about waiting one more month and see if the price drops. I would love to get into this for around $299 so a year from now when it is $150 I won't feel so bad. (BTW Fry's also had Panasonic Blu Ray R discs for just ten bucks each.) |
