HVX200 to Final Cut to Vegas
 

I was asked this by a Mac user and, since I've never worked with footage from this camera, thought it was time to ask the experts here.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Here's his question:

A local rental house sent us a Panasonic HVX200 that was used by a lady to shoot her wedding . All of the footage is on a Firestore FS100 .
We use Final Cut in-house here so putting the footage on that is not problem ... however, here's the situation.
The lady wants to keep the footage in HD because she wants to edit it in HD. Her brother has Vegas. Any tips on the best mthod to transfer the footage to a medium that would allow her to ingest it into Vegas?
I'm thinking that I'm going to need to suggest to her that we can dump everything onto a portable 160G hard-drive and send it to her but I want to make sure that it will be Vegas-friendly.

I would simply copy the contents of the drive to an external PC-formatted drive and deliver it to him. If he knows Vegas at all, he knows that he will either have to use Raylight or Cineform to work with the DvcProHD P2 media files. I personally would ask to talk directly to the brother to make sure he is clear on the workflow required. Assuming he has Raylight or Cineform, it shouldn't be too difficult.

We use Raylight for our P2 DVCProHD stuff and it's a no-brainer. Just a drag and drop process. Have just started using Cineform, as well. Cineform requires a conversion of the files, but probably results in a higher quality intermediate.

Raylight is definitely the cheaper of the two so that's the option I'll recommend.
