No thumbnails with HDV capture???
Capturing HDV (from FX1) to new Dell i7 Vista 64 box. The scenes appear to capture fine but when the captured files are observed on the harddrive there is just a generic placekeeper, no thumbnail. They can be imported into Vegas 8.1 and they HAVE thumbnails when in the Vegas explorer and when on the time line but they do not when searched for with the Windows explorer. I have turned off the box that says to use icons never thumbnails, doesn't make any difference. Anyone else having this problem. Makes it quite difficult to identify the clips. Also Windows will not play the clips when you click on. them. The media players don't seem to want to recognize them. I am guessing its a 64bit problem but what can I do about it.

I brought this up and someone offered a solution, but it involved installing something, and then that something required an unspecified codec or some such thing. I was worn out before I even tried it, and I lazily gave up. I did a google search and found a player for m2t files, but it it did not appear to have 64 bit OS support.

Terry,
I have the same computer and found the same thing. I have started converting to cineform avi. I even tried to create a second bot drive and run windows xp and had no end of greif trying to sort that out!!! Maybe 32 bit vista would do it but I have needed to take a break from the issues I have had with this computer!!! |
I think I have solved part of the problem. I found and installed a package of 64bit codecs. I now have thumbnails in Vegas explorer and on the time line and the clips on my HD will play inMedia PLayer. I still don't have thumbnails for the files on the HD but I think if I recapture now that I would. Just ahve not had the time to check.

Use the free VLC Player and forget Media Player. VLC is much better, plays more formats (including .m2t) and has more settings like deinterlace so you can better preview your vids.

Terry where did you find the 64 bit codecs? VLC player works fine but still offers no thumbnails.

Thanks Terry!
