Vegas and betasp deck

Does anyone here connect a betasp deck to your windows machine using vegas? I need to figure out the best way to connect these two together.
Thanks to all.

I've not set up an SP deck but I have set VHS decks (both in and out) and DVD players in so the set up should be the same. You'll need some sort of pass thru-IE deck>to passthru (could be a camera) firewire from camera to computer.
Obvioulsy the passthru would be either S or RCA connections.
The controls in Vegas would not work to control the deck so you would need to do that manually but. Start Vegas recording and hit the play buttin on the deck OR if you are PTT, hit the record button on the deck then hit the play button in Vegas and you should be good to go.

Thanks Don.

Anyone else have betasp deck setup with their Sony Vegas?

I've rented one occassionally. Captured as Mike suggests, using a Canopus ADVC100 video-to-firewire/dv25 converter (now the Grass Valley ADVC110).

This is exactly the same function as the analog-to-dv passthru on a camcorder, but avoids putting hours on the cam, is much more compact, and is also handy for DV-to-analog conversion; Vegas to a broadcast monitor.

If it has one, use the Y/C (S-video) out of the Beta SP deck to go into the Canopus box.
The picture quality should be slightly better than using a composite feed.

beta sp capture

If using the UVW-1800 Beta deck - the composite is about as good as the y/c
the PVW series and BVW series decks have much better y/c than UVW series.
You can get a Canopus box with component in - this will give you the best option.
