Vegas 64 bit - 8bit or 32bit floating Pt. ?

I'm new to this system, - (new computer 2.8g, 6g ram), and am editing AVCHD from a Canon HF-S10 and note that this setting is available but so far I have stuck to 8bit. Should I go with the 32b FP ?

Stick with 8bit.

Thanks Perrone. My thoughts too.

if i render WMV9 HD files with 8 bit settings, my blacks will be grey when viewing with mediaplayer, so the contrast is poor.
When i change to 32bit settings, render time is a lot longer, but finally black will be black.
Why is this? Whats wrong with the 8bit setting? It work correctly when rendering to avi or mpeg, only WMV is problematic.

thx

8 bit is for editing, 32 bit video settings for rendering - yes it does take longer but it's worth it.

I vaguely recall having issues with DVDs after rendering 32bit, but it's been so long I can't be sure. It did look nice, though.

It's really not this simple. But pointing to Glenn Chan's website is a great thing to do. Long ago I adopted the all 32bit linear / all MOV workflow. Its slow, but my colors are perfect, and my renders perfect every time. No need to futz around with Vegas' inane color structure.

When rendering directly for the web, I changed to 32bit 2.22, and do a studio RGB to computer RGB and all is perfect.

Doing cuts only in 8-bit is fine. But as soon as you start doing color correction and such, you need to be in 32bit. So I just work there all the time.
