Just drag it from your explorer outside of Vegas or from the
explorer window inside Vegas (see left bottom of the screen) onto the timeline. If you drag it over an existing track it will put it there. If you drag it below any tracks it will create a new one. Ofcourse you can also go through the trimmer if you want to trim it first. |
Just drag it to the timeline. If you want to insert it before other clips, either turn on Ripple or insert the necessary space first.

But when I try that the existing clips seem to slide under each other. Can I "lock" them so that the entire track moves together during the insert?

It depends on your ripple settings. Try changing them so that they affect everything.
If you can't get that to work, just manually insert the proper spaces "Insert - Time..." will let you manually insert the proper time. As a third option, you could always select the necessary events and manually move them. |
