Thanks!

FYI I use an older Sony converter I have a Sony DSR 11 but I like to keep it off HEAT is a big issue and I think the image is a little better with the converter

Computer -> firewire -> Camera/deck/convertor -> S-video/RCA -> TV

Ed, what if you want to connect and monitor on a high definition monitor? Is it simply a matter of replacing the second-last "S-video/RCA" step with "HDMI/component"? Or is it more complicated than that? (This assumes one has the HDMI/component option, e.g. on an HV20).

For HD, there's a couple options available. One is to use the Secondary Monitor as the display device. Then you would connect to the secondary output of your video card. Another is to use a dedicated hardware card to output HD.

Using Firewire, your preview will be in SD.

How about a Y adapter from one of the graphics card outlets for 2 computer monitors and use the other graphics card outlet for a HD TV monitor?
