I am getting similiar problems. I recorded some footage with my 9600 AIW card. I have 5 video files, about 15 min each. They are .mpg. I dropped them into Vegas, edited out the commercials, strung them together. They look fine in the timeline. When I export them as Video for Windows DV NTSC, the audio is way way off.

Right now, I'm exporting them seperate. I'm going to try putting them togther in virtual dub and hope that works. Hopefully it's not exporting them at different speeds (ie: speeding up the footage even the smallest amount in the export). Though... it doens't get progressively worse in the file. It's only after the first edit point. So the first 15 min are fine. Then its all way way off.

Comon guys...?

Anyone...??? We need help here...

This has to be a common simple problem?

How can we fix it

Edward Troxel March 26th, 2005 08:34 AM

Bryan's problem I can understand. Capturing via an AIW into an MPG is not a good option. Much better to use an external convertor and capture to DV-AVI. Then all his problems would go away.

Brent's problem - could you explain a little more? Are you doing hdv?

Shooting on HDR-FX1...

capturing HDV using Cineform Connect HD

capturing to m2t file...

Dropping the m2t file onto Vegas timeline

then doing a simple render out to mpeg2

Have you tried converting the audio to the project settings then putting it on the timeline ,syncing it with the existing audio, turn off the events audio ,then render?

Brent Marks March 26th, 2005 04:42 PM

no, i have no clue as to what u just said...

why would i need to do all that?

can't vegas handle it?

Bryan Mitchell March 26th, 2005 05:38 PM

See the thing is.... After several tests.... It's the Video that is off. Not the audio. I exported each seperatly, then played them back. The audio played back beautifully, with no sign of the cuts. The video however, had parts of the commercials I had cut out, along with alot of other really weird side effects. For some reason, even though I cut it, and even though it looks fine in the timeline, IT's exporting the video differently than I have cut it. It's 45 min long... And only 1 vid track, 1 audio track. This is absolutely ridiculous....

HELP

Dan Euritt March 28th, 2005 12:17 AM

bryan, it sounds like vegas isn't combining the mpegs correctly... download the womble demo and see if it'll put 'em together and keep 'em in sync... but ed is right, you shouldn't even be using mpeg as a capture format... unless it's hi-def off of a cable feed?

David Ennis March 28th, 2005 06:19 AM

Brent,

I guess the problem is that not many people are working with HD (including me).

If you have confirmed that the audio is in synch on the timeline, try rendering the project to .avi first. You're demanding less of the program when you do that. Once you have it in .avi rendering to .mpg should be smooth.

Another option along the lines of Jack's suggestion above is to try rendering the audio alone into a .wav file. Then add that wave file to a new track in your project. Make sure it's in synch, mute or delete the other sound track and render.

My final product doesn't have to be HD....
I just want to maintain the quality and the 16x9 aspect ratio.

What's the best way for me to capture/edit?

How are you guys editing then???

What am I missing here?

Steve Roffler March 28th, 2005 08:49 PM

Most of us are capturing DV-AVI and editing in that format. Then you render to whatever you want.
