Just Curious about mpeg render time

Hello to all,

Just wondering about something. I edit sd dvds. A 2hr .avi file takes about 17min to render in Vegas. Then I bring it into dvda5. I set my menus, (blah, blah) and the resulting mpeg 2 stream takes about 2 hours to render. Any thoughts on how to make this faster? Or is that pretty standard? Thanks to all.

Well, you could buy a faster computer. But short of that, getting real time performance on an Mpeg2 render isn't bad at all. Try encoding BluRay some time!

like Perrone said a faster processor is about the only way. It's just the nature of the beast.

It all depends on how fast your computer is. My renders take about half as long again as the length of the project and I'm using a fairly fast system.

Don't know if it will help, but have you tried rendering to MPEG2 (and AC3) in Vegas itself? The MPEG 2 and AC3 files come over together when one is dragged into the blue screen and the only thing left for DVDA to do is prepare and burn which, for me (even with the addition of twenty or so chapter headings) is done in a few (say 10 to 15) minutes as no rendering is necessary.

I've been doing it Richard's way since I started doing DVDs several years ago.

Add me in there as well. Render to MPG/AC3 in Vegas, bring to DVDA, author DVD, render, burn, done.
Lots more control of the render in Vegas IMO.
