mmmm, the known issues list appears longer than the new features one :-(

Mike Kujbida October 11th, 2010 09:30 AM

Be advised that, if all you have is XP, you MUST be running SP3 or it won't install :-(

Track Grouping

Track Grouping is fabulous -- this alone is worth the upgrade price for me.

Jay Bratcher October 11th, 2010 09:38 AM

I see no early bird discounts - I think someone had mentioned that there would be none, but I was hoping they were wrong :)

Heck, Sony hasn't even notified me that it's available yet. Does anyone think they might send out a special offer with the notification?

Paul Fierlinger October 11th, 2010 09:43 AM

Actually there is a $ 139 discount price NOW, but a couple of hours ago I had to pay US$239.95. I have no doubts that I will be repaid but can someone please tell me how I should go about doing this?

Mike Kujbida October 11th, 2010 09:47 AM

Paul, contact Customer Service and explain what happened.
Sony has always been very good at refunds to those who couldn't wait for the promo price announcement :-)

Paul Fierlinger October 11th, 2010 10:01 AM

Thanks, Mike. Just done that. I didn't realize I was that quick. Thanks.

Mike Kujbida October 11th, 2010 10:14 AM

Paul, I'm glad that you got it resolved.
If it's any consolation, there were several users on the Sony Vegas forum who couldn't wait this morning and are now waiting for their refund :-)

Jay Bratcher October 11th, 2010 10:17 AM

Great find guys - like Paul, I checked earlier and it was $240 - I'm about to spring for the update now :)

Paul Fierlinger October 11th, 2010 10:23 AM

Well, I guess I'm one of those now, but as I said , I found the early early price worth the upgrade for me. The playback quality is much better too; both in even frame rate speed and image sharpness. Now I can play a full size secondary screen without a hitch -- this is grand!

I see we get a "freebie" with our order, but just a heads up - the ParticleIllusion freebie is only a 6 month license. Had I realized, I would have chosen either a sound library or Audio Studio 10.

Still, ParticleIllusion looks quite interesting...

Ian Stark October 11th, 2010 11:21 AM

Is the Particle Illusion the regular stand-alone v3 or is it a light version?

v3 for 6 months...

Lee Kennedy October 11th, 2010 06:18 PM

well I'm quite keen to upgrade to 10, having not upgraded from 8 to 9 as I didn't see much upgrade there, if the image stabilization is good and the dslr support works for my 7D then I'm sold.

However I wanted to test this out first, so downloaded the demo, and I'm not off to a good start. I can't even get it installed. It comes up with "error 1603" during an installation failure.

Any ideas?

I'm running windows xp sp3

Mike Kujbida October 11th, 2010 06:34 PM

Lee, here's the official Microsoft word on that error.
You receive an "error 1603: A fatal error occurred during installation" error message when you try to install a Windows Installer package
I hope this helps.

Lee Kennedy October 11th, 2010 07:01 PM

thanks I'll check that out.

Well the Vegas Pro 10 trial worked on my windows 7 64bit machine. And my 7D videos work on it. That just about sells me alone.

If I can my xp machine to work with the trial then I'll be signing up. Which bonus to get with it though is a hard decision. I really wish they were giving away the royalty free music pack they give away with the studio version seeing they unfortunately don't support cinescore anymore and I'm running low on music seeing can't buy theme packs anymore
