Optimizing video for posting online

Fellow Vegans,

It seems like all the video sites have changed their formats since last I uploaded a video, and my latest project looks good on myspace and vimeo, but plays slowly on anything but the fastest PCs, and looked terrible on youtube despite me staying within the formats they suggest (so I deleted it).

I also just upgraded from V8 to V10 and wonder if V10 offers any new solutions.

The Vimeo and myspace uploads may be viewed here:

Sneak Preview of Execution At Dawn Video by CATCH A RISING BULLET - Myspace Video

The format size is 1280x720 24P rendered in wmv format which seemed to work the best.

Suggestions?

Brian

oooooo, Very intense .I like it. well done.
Are you saying, you think the quality is not up to scratch? Because it looks like Vimeo has displayed what you gave it.
Did you mean to stretch the 4x3 to 16x9? or is that the problem? If it is don't give them non square pixels, render everything to square pixels and it will be fine, 720x576 becomes 1048x576, etc

Vimeo did a nice job so long as your running a fast machine. I'm looking for ways to keep the same look on slower machine. I see previews all the time which look outstanding on my old XP system and there must be some secret.

The larger problem was Youtube which resulted in a severely pixellated lower rez quality despite rendereing out to several differnt formats all of which used square pixels.

This one was a 10mbps Sony AVC mpeg4 on youtube. Comes out pretty much like the source and vimeo looks about the same.

This one was a huge 30mpbs Blu-ray Mpeg2. This one looks better on vimeo.

Erik,

Was the first clip specifically rendered with the Sony AVC instead of the Main Concept?

What was the original format (camera, codec, etc.)

Yes it was Sony AVC, not main concept. Both clips started life as 35mbps XDcam EX MXF files. Hope that helps.

Is there an advantage to the Sony version over the MainConcept?

Not that I know of It's just something I've been using for a while now.
