extracting dv tape info: please help

Was wondering if the following is possible within Sony Vegas 8 Pro:

I have old dv tapes which I want to capture as backups to a hard drive. When I preview the dv tapes on the camcorder (consumer dv) I can see the date and time of when the video was originally recorded in the lcd. The problem is that when I capture the video via firewire to the pc this information is lost. I think the data could be on the dv tape but not stamped on the footage itself (if that makes sense). Is there a way of extracting this information within Vegas Pro after capturing.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

if camcorders date was set and correct at time of recording then that info can be found under 'details' in project media.

These are HDV and AVCHD formats. If Vegas doesn't display the original recording date and time for these formats, try the demo of DVMP Pro.

If it is useful for you Antonie, you can also see date and time recorded by right-clicking on clip (if it is on timeline) and select properties - general.
