Vegas MPEG 2 DVD authoring quality loss??
 

Hi Guys

Just a quick thought here...I'm rendering out all my SD MPEG2 files ready for a DVD using DVDLab rather than DVD Architect. When I import the MPEG2's into DVD Lab it splits the file into an MPV and MPA file before compiling the end results with menus etc etc into VOB's in the usual Video_TS and Audio_TS folders.

Can you actually get any image quality loss/degradation during what DVDLab calls the "demuxing" process??? I've never bothered to use any other author package and just wondered if there is anyway one could lose resolution this way since HD to SD is a dicey process anyway and the last thing you need is to lose any more IQ!!!

I don't think you do get any image quality loss (just an uneducated opinion..); the fact that there are two separate streams shouldn't make a difference.

Maybe a little off point, but I found a use for DVD Architect recently. I was trawling forums etc trying to absorb the collected wisdom about downrezing from lovely HD (including the 50P) to DVD (for stuff that I want to give the family). I tried a few methods, and got reasonable results, then after reading a thread here (Anyone tried this in DVD Architect?) gave that a go.

Basically, start with any old file (in my case a MP4 1920x1080 50P @ 28Mbps, tell DVD Architect that you want to make a DVD out of it, and Voila! The results were (I think) at least as good as or better than native DV, better than I was doing with more complicated methods, and dead easy.

This is eyeball stuff only - no fancy charts or detailed analysis. Might be worth a thought though....
