Project interchange in V12: Sony is finally getting it right!!

Project interchange in V12: Sony is finally getting it right!!

Imho
Since v9, and really for me since v7, all version updates have been incremental. I'm a straight cut guy, so most new features haven't really been needed. Honestly the best features for me have actually been in the editing and how great and fluid it is to work with clips, err 'events'. Using avid and watching users of fcp and ppro is painful sometimes compared to Vegas.

But, as someone who's been here since v1, and has been moving forward, experience wise, Sony just kept giving me bare minimum for updates.

The more I aged, and learnt and grew, the more I collaborated with other post professionals, the more Vegas became a hindrance.

Forced me to move out of Vegas for certain tasks or projects - for example:
- I use ae to import a LUT at the end of my project
- I use Avid a lot now for various import export of projects from other apps.

It forced me to come up with exotic workflows, with gargantuan uncompressed files, gamma shift workarounds or Google 'Vegas render out to fcp/ae' for the umpteenth time in case there was any new developments!

I really love Vegas, and all of us here know that it IS as good as any other NLE out there, except when it came time to colaborate with other software.

Now, for me, the Project Interchange is HUGE and effectively keeps me in Vegas longer, and this fact makes me a better customer for Sony!

If its stable, I'm in!

If it weren't for the video 'arms' race each NLE is in right now, I simply wish they'd settle on a 'universal' edit format and get it over with. No reason at all they can't come up with a 'standard'...but guess it's off to the Sony = XDCAM, Panasonic = AVC Intra, Canon = Canon MXF, etc. video 'standard' races.

So let me get this straight:

-I edit my project in V12 (with source files sitting on an external drive
-I export the project as an XML file
-I grab my drive and go to my grader
-He plugs it in, open DaVinci, import my XML

....and VOILA!!!!

That's all there is to it or am I missing something?

the theory is right - have yet to read the practice....

for old farts there was nothing like a cmx edl - but then again, compared to what can be incorporated into a timeline, plug-ins, cc, etc, etc., it makes a cmx edl look like morse code without the dots... simplicity itself

Congrats Leslie.
Can't have too many trustees :)
Re going between different software's , if it does work as it should, without any silly things going wrong, I for one will be doing bacflips of joy, Vegas just became part of cs6.

I wish I didn't feel so cynical about vegas, but the idea that it is an interchange to outside collaborations is a farce when I can't depend on it to reliably work with even vegas projects from previous versions of itself. I'm using v12.367 64 bit right now, and there's no question it's made some improvements, but to me it remains same old vegas.
