mov not ssen in Vegas 11

I have been given some mov files- heaps of them in fact to use on a production I have. I dont know what they were shot on, if that says anything about variations in mov codec, but botton line is they arent visible on the Vegas 11 timeline.

How can I get them to be seen and work on them. Do I need a converter or is there something within Vegas I magically press and all is well. thx

Dowloand MediaInfo: MediaInfo

This will give you all the information about the video and audio of the .mov files. You may need to install a codec, MediaInfo will tell you the coced used.

If that doesn't work, tell us the info that the program gives you to see what may be wrong.

Re: mov not seen in Vegas 11

Thx Iker

Got the info from one mov file below.

Forgot to mention I'm on Win 7 32bit.

Another question...am I right in assuming Vegas has trouble converting some mov types. From what I have read, it seems there are some variants (Nikon or other) that Vegas has trouble reading.

If I do need to convert, does this mean I have to convert EVERY file to a Vegas readable file? Such as mp4. If so I have a LOT of work to do. The skf files, do they need to be converted as well.

In the past I have dropped Sony EX3 MXF files onto the timeline no worries. I am surprised I am having so much trouble getting the mov's to work.

Can you tell me more pls. Thx in advance....

Geoff, can you upload a short clip to a site like Dropbox and let us try and see if any of us can get it to load on our systems?
If you don't have Dropbox (you get 2 GB. of space for free), use the following link and each of us gets an extra 500 MB.

This is HDV or AVCHD footage that was transcoded to Apple Intermediate Codec.

If you have access to the original tape, capture it in Vegas as a M2T if it was HDV. If you have the MTS files, use them directly in the timeline or rename MTS to M2TS.

If you don't have access, you need access to a Mac and Compressor to convert that to ProRes HQ.

There is no way in Windows to properly read and transcode this footage.

Hey Geoff

Now you have to find some nice person in Perth that has a MAC and will convert your files to Prores as you cannot do it on your computer and neither can I!!!!

Anyone in Perth, Western Australia run a MAC who can help Geoff out???

Chris

Hi folks
Thx for all the replies. I would have replied earlier but had problems with dropbox...but now on track. Below is a link to a 3 second/40mb file from the mov series.

I am very interested to see if you guys can open it cos I've spent hours n hours on this.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/107141324/c...%3B05%3B15.mov

Otherwise I'll be on the lookout thx to Chris in Perth..thx Chris.

Looking forward to the results. cheers

might be a stupid question, but do you have Quicktime installed on your PC, and can you open those files in any software player?

Re: mov not ssen in Vegas 11

When I tried to load it, it said it was only 705 K in size.
It would not play in anything I had (Vegas, PPro, AE, Media Encoder) as it said the file was corrupt.

Buba, as Jack mentioned, there are some mov files that Vegas will NOT open, no matter how hard you try :(
I wish that Mac users would learn to give us PC users files in ProRes format only as those have always played on my Vegas timelines.

Vegas Pro 12 is promising a lot more file format interchangeability so all we can do is hope that they deliver what they're promising.

PC compatibility of QT's Apple Intermediate Codec, AIC, is entirely in Apple's hands.

ProRes playback has been introduced for the PC, and it is a very good intermediate codec

Re: mov not ssen in Vegas 11

Guys.
I'm really sorry for the delay.

I have sent the drive back to be installed with the ProRes HQ as suggested here. When I get it I'll let you know how it goes.

I stupidly forgot to keep from the HD / file to send here for analysis.

Really appreciate the support. Thx
