Funny, I've been using Vegas for years, and reading this forum for as long, but suddenly I have a slew of questions.

I want to place text on the screen, one line at a time. I figured I could Generate Text and complete Line one. Then, copy the event and add the next line so I wouldn't have to retype everything. However, Titler automatically changes the text size and position whenever a line is added or removed. Any way around this?

Do you want to have the Text "Roll" up? If so, put ALL the Text lines on screen, get to the Placement Tab and move the Text mass Upwards over time. There is a Text Roll Generated Media control, but I prefer the Placement way of doing this.

This will get you Rolling Text. If you now want text to the appear line by line there are several was to do this once you have the rolling in place. I use a Mask in PanCrop which is very versatile. But now it depends on the final "look" you want for your text roll.

Do explore the above. Adding line by line, the way you're doing at present, is fraught with difficulties, a couple of which you've discovered for yourself!

Quite agree with Grazie's suggestion.

An alternative method, which many have found very effective, is to create the text in Photoshop/Gimp/Illustrator, export as a png with a transparency, then use pan/crop or motion tracking to roll, or masks, fades etc to reveal as required. I personally find it much more versatile and certainly easier to edit text in an external app, even if it means the extra step of having to leave Vegas.

There's certainly several options available. Another option would be to add a separate generated media for each line of text. As Vegas Pro has unlimited tracks, you can add as many as you want.

That's what I've been doing, Ed. I just don't like having so many tracks eating us screen space.

You have some options there too. You can minimize them. Or you can add them to a "Track Group" and minimize the entire group into a single track. Just open it back up to edit the text and then shrink it down again.
