I'm no expert, but there's a scale alongside your master control - I think it just means don't let your peaks go above -10 on the scale. Not many of us go up to 0 as you may have been doing, -6 seems to be more usual for DVD .

Hi all,

I'm working on a piece for showing in a movie theater (an animated 30-second commercial) with delivery of uncompressed QT and I have the specs sheet which gives two options for audio:

* Stereo Release only
* Stereo: CH1=LT, CH2=RT (Broadcast mix, not to exceed -10 dbfs)

I've only worked with Vegas audio insofar as creating DVDs for my clients and not peaking into the reds on the master volume control. This...has me a little confused. I've done some looking on the 'net but I'm still not getting it. Does option one mean just what I've been doing all along - render out and make sure my master level doesn't peak into the reds?

I am going to be calling the theater contact to follow up and make sure the client doesn't have any rejection issues with the piece, but I'm still anxious that without some background of how to achieve "not to exceed -10 dbfs) that what I'm told during the call will be over my head.

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I figured that's what I need to be doing. I'll just go ahead and shoot it over and see what they say.
