Sony Vegas 13 & Red .r3d Colour Science

I'm yet to upgrade to SV13, but am I to assume that the colour science from Red's .r3d files is still not fully supported??

All of my work is shot on Red Epic and I have been using Vegas since Version 4, but find the colour science limitations of SV12 extremely annoying. Especially for an NLE touting itself as 4K/Red compatible and so on.

Have these been fixed in SV13? I guess I could download the trial to find out, but have been very limited with time, so I was wondering if we could shed some light (and colour!) on the topic

Maybe this is known: You can access the R3D metadata by right-clicking your Red files in Project Media while selecting »File information«.

Hi Marco,

Thank you for the response.

I'm wondering more about whether SV13 correctly displays the clip colour space settings of the .r3d file - the same way the colours show in RedcineX and Adobe PP.

In SV12, the clips show up darker than they do in RCX and PP......

Do you use the R3D files in an 8 bit Vegas Pro project or is it a 32 bit floatpoint project?

I set the project to 32 bit floatpoint....

Then in case you use the full level mode – which color space did you select for the project properties?

You should not use the standard setting which is ACES and which assumes your footage is based on ACES color space and also it would need to select a dedicated LUT in the media properties. Instead – leave the display transformation mode to "None" (or "Off") and regulate color by adjusting Raw metadata by the file type properties in Project Media.
