I agree. Can't wait for the fall release of Sony Vegas.

Re: interview with Gary Rebholz
As you say, Mike, better and better :-) Thanks for posting this.
Does anyone know the route to submit new feature suggestions now? I'm sure that our many years' worth of suggestions to the Sony team will be on the list of the Magix team (oh wait, it's the same people!), but a reminder might be useful. On my list (still) are: - copy/paste selected attributes - overhaul of media management - more options when saving with media (eg force a render of trimmed clips) - basic motion tracking/cornerpinning - project versioning and built-in autosave - use media embedded timecode - open in external editor (eg Photoshop) - I'm sure we had that feature once! - use Photoshop layers split on different tracks - clearer indication of what media level fx are in use - ability to apply other actions at media level, eg pan/crop - fix nesting - Move timeline clips with region markers (or rather be able to group region markers with clips) But above all of this is stability. Personally VP13 has been more stable for me than any release since, I dunno, 7 or 8, but I still feel like I have to tread on eggshells. And lo and behold I have just crashed it while trying to add media level fx by right clicking the event in project media (not repeatable). Personally I'm not worried about the interface being old fashioned because I pretty much know it inside out as it is. Likewise I'm not fussed about uploading direct to YouTube, VP Connect or any other gimmicky stuff. I just want to edit quickly and efficiently, in a stable environment that plays nicely with the outside world. I really enjoy editing, but I am also running a business and I want tools that let me spend more time finding new opportunities - even if 'Magix Vegas' does sound like a crappy show featuring a tiger and a German illusionist with a ponytail. OK, I'm stopping now. This was only going to be a quick comment to share my enthusiasm for the positive vibe from Madison. Instead I seem to have entered the realms of fantasy. |
Re: interview with Gary Rebholz
You're welcome Ian.
There are a few threads on the Sony Vegas Pro forum where several suggestions like yours are being offered. Gary and another former but now Majix guy are monitoring it and periodically commenting. Open in external editor is a free script from Vegas user Rosebud and is still available on this site There's a new one out though, courtesy of user wwaag and it handles RAW stills. Info is on this thread on the Sony Vegas forum. RE: New Script: Open Stills in Graphic Editor The script (with instructions, etc.) is at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/y4bcekzyn...nelSIYpga?dl=0 |
Re: interview with Gary Rebholz
Cool, thanks Mike.
You know, I was convinced the open in external editor thing was once a Vegas feature! Cheers! |
Re: interview with Gary Rebholz
Ian, you may be thinking about that in relation to an external audio editor as that feature/option has been a part of Vegas for quite some time.

Re: interview with Gary Rebholz
The more I think about it the more I think I must have installed that script at some point in the past. Gettin' old . . . :-)

Re: interview with Gary Rebholz
Wayne spent much time over the last month working with me playing "BETA" tester, getting his new OIGE (Open In Graphics Editor) to play nicely, and now, unlike the prior Rosebud script, it now deals with RAWs and also, and at last I have back and forth success with PSD layers.
Wayne has been spectacularly patient with me and my "demands". Wayne: THANK YOU! Grazie |
Re: interview with Gary Rebholz
Ooh, Grazie, that sounds fantastic and just what I need. Just about to hop on a plane but when I'm back I'll give it a whirl. Many thanks :-)

Re: interview with Gary Rebholz
Please forgive my ignorance. I am not a Vegas user but have considered moving to it many times. Please explain what that article means? Has Vegas been acquired by a new developer? Is this the new final word that will end all the rumors about Sony not supporting it further?
Steve Edit: Never mind, I found the other threads. |

Re: interview with Gary Rebholz
In addition to a few changes I mentioned in another post, I'd also like to have some way to easily save a record of my project and render settings. For example, have a check box in preferences that turns on the feature that when you save a .veg file or do a render, the project settings and current render settings get saved under the same file name as a text file.
I have sent this suggestion to Sony already, few years ago. Vegas 13 has been working good for me also. Very, very rarely get a crash. One sure way to crash in the past was to have a long video clip that I wanted to stabilize. Even if I cut the clip down to 10 seconds on the timeline, I think the stabilize effect gets applied to the entire original clip, and if it was too long it would cause a crash. Then of course, bringing in too many large still photos will crash, or hitting any button while Vegas is still working on the last processing task you gave it. Mark |
Re: interview with Gary Rebholz
Mark,
My experiences with Vegas Pro 13 are exactly the same. The only time it crashes is when there are too many large still photos, or when hitting any button while Vegas is still working on the last processing task you gave it (usually "Save" with me). -Jim. |
Re: interview with Gary Rebholz
I want to remind you that for a long time Wave Hammer of Vegas Pro 13 worked only in demo mode. It was repaired only after long correspondence with the SCS and many new builds.
