Vegas Upgrade Offer
I am currently editing on Adobe PP 6.0 and it is getting a little stale. I don't do enough video to justify the $50.00 monthly fee the upgrade to the Creative Cloud suite costs and don't want to upgrade to bits and pieces of it either.
The offer is $200.00 for Vegas 13 with a free offer to 14. I know Vegas used to have a passionate group of supporters, and with this offer wonder if it is worth switching over. Thoughts? |
Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
One word - DEFINATELY !!
This offer is excellent and with such a helpful lot of people here, it is a no-brainer. Enjoy ! Ron. |
Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
Thanks, Ron. At that price it's almost a no-lose offer.
|
Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
Sure, go for it.

Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
But be aware that Pro 14 will not support any of your existing scripts or plug ins which will all need to be re-written if tyhey are to be usable in Pro 12. See, for, example:-

Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
Likely doesn't matter if you are coming from another NLE or do not use scripts or plugins. I have only ever used the features that come with the software and assume there will be an updated set to replace the standard Sony effects. Main editor is EDIUS and that too has always required an updated set with each program update for the last few updates.

Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
I just wish we had some Specs on Vegas 14. Has anyone seen any? As I posted in the other thread, I really need to know if they are continuing OpenCL support.
|
Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
BTW, does anyone know if the Vegas 13 from the offer is the 64bit version?
|
Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
IIRC, Vegas 13 is 64-bit only?
Ah, yes, here it is: Microsoft® Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10 (64-bit) |

Also wanted to make the OP aware that Sony has let go of Vegas Pro. It is now owned by Magix.

Will FilmConvert work with Vegas 14?

Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
Finally got an offer email from Magix, so it's good to see I'm on their radar :-)
The exclusive offer is for 60% off their web design software and I have three days to purchase it. Not as compelling an introduction to Magix as I would have hoped. |
Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
Me to...phew...

Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
Don't wait for the offer in the mail, just follow this link (previously posted on this forum) and buy it in US$, that's what I did, no problems.
Exclusive welcome offer |

Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
Yes, but the offer I have been given is not a 'buy 13 now upgrade to 14 for free later' offer as I already own Vegas 13. I have been offered discount on web design software which I have no use for as I make videos for a living! :-)
|
Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
The offer is only good until the end of this month.
If you don't live in the USA you can still order, however you're restricted to the download version. |

Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
A message from Magix in the vegas forum said.....
Thank you for your interest in our bundle offer for VEGAS Pro 13 + 14. As you know, VEGAS Pro 14 will be released in September 2016. And we don't think users who are planning an upgrade to VEGAS Pro 13 so close to the new release date should miss out on the exciting new version. So any customers who upgrade to VEGAS Pro 13 between now and July 31st will also get VEGAS 14 for free! Those of you who already use VEGAS Pro 13 will receive a separate upgrade offer in September. Hang tight! |
Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
Plugin effects and transitions - such as those from NewBlue - will work fine in Vegas Pro 14. They do not rely on the "Sony" namespace.
It's only the scripts/custom commands that will need to be modified. However, it's a very minor modification (changing a part of a line of code from "Sony" to "Magix" more than likely). If you have any text scripts you use and love, you can modify them yourself and they will then continue to work. If you have a compiled script, such as my Excalibur or Montage Magic, they I will have to recompile to work with the new namespace. That is a very minor change and I will certainly make that change immediately to release a Vegas Pro 14 version. The same thing happened when Sony purchased Vegas from Sonic Foundry. Every script had to be changed changing "SonicFoundry" to "Sony". So it's not exactly a new, earth-shattering, change we're talking about. The only issue will be for any compiled scripts whose author is no longer around. There are very few of those that I'm aware of. |

Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
That was not made clear that Edward already received a copy of Vegas 14 to test and you cannot expect that anyone that doesn't know him, like me, to know this. That's why I questioned it.

Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
And yet, Graham, Edward said "Plugin effects and transitions - such as those from NewBlue - will work fine in Vegas Pro 14", he could have said "I have received a copy from vegas 14 from Magix to test and Plugin effects and transitions - such as those from NewBlue - will work fine", but he didn't, why not?

Why? he can respond here to my first remark but since you already answered on his behalf that cleared the situation up, so case closed and lets move on.

Exclusive welcome offer Not sure whether that is any indication of demand. |
Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
No, I have not received a copy of 14 at this time. However, I know they are going to continue to support OpenFX plugins so the effects (such as those from NewBlue) will continue to work. They are not dependent on the "Magix" namespace. However, the scripts will be broken because they *will* depend on the Magix namespace. I have not yet heard all the necessary changes but will certainly make the needed adjustments in my scripts.

Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
Thanks for the clarification Edward.

Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
I currently have Pro 12 on my computer. Is it better to uninstall it before downloading/installing Pro 13?
Thanks, |

Before I purchased Vegas Pro 13, I was using Movie Studio Platinum 13. Before that I used Movie Studio Platinum 12. There were a few differences between MSP12 and MSP13 and I kept both installed and needed to revert back to MSP12 on a couple on-going projects, until I finally got used to the MSP13 differences. There have been enough users who experienced differences between the versions and having the older version installed and handy to refer back to may be a help if you experience a hiccup. I wouldn't expect any problems, but there is no harm keeping the old VP12. |

Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
Hi Graham, I have been playing with various stabilisers from NewBlue, Mercalli and Sony Stabilize (Mercalli v2) this weekend and have found that they all have plus and minus points.
NewBlue, tried version 1 and stabilzer pro - version 1 Ok but does not give smooth panning, moves in small jumps. Border needs correction to eliminate artifacts. Not my 1st choce. Stabilzer pro - quite good and you can get smooth panning. I have a trial and it asks for about $110 (£80) to activate. Mercalli v4 SAL and Vegas FX, good for static rock steady option but panning moves in little jumps, border a pain to deal with, need to adjust options to eliminate artifacts. Sony Vegas in built, (Mercalli v2) the best for me, gives great panning floats the image gently and removes rotation, deals with border itself. Only disadvantage is about 3-4 shots per 300 crashes vegas. Andy |
Re: Vegas Upgrade Offer
Andy,
You said that Mercalli v4 SAL and Vegas FX was good for static rock steady option but that panning moves in little jumps, that border were a pain to deal with, the need to adjust options to eliminate artifacts. This is not the experience of most and I wonder if you have used the various drop down options that are available on most instruction windows. This should eliminate the border problems you describe and just about everything else as well. The built in instruction manual i.s very good and well worth printing off as it tells you in some detail how to deal with so many of the issues the user might face in different situations. Incidentally, the built-in Vegas stabilizer is, in fact, a scaled down version of Mercalli v2 and offers far less than the version you buy.. Richard |
