Vegas 6.0d memory question

Hey guys, I have Pentium 4 3.00GHz with W3 SATA Hitachi HDrives/2.0 GIG ram Windows XP Pro Version 2002 Servoce Pack 2. I have Vegas 5.0 and 6.0 both on C drive. I use D & E for storage only. Preferences in 5.0 it shows 1919 MB max available memory of which I have allocated 1400. In 6.0 when I go open the Video tab only 1024 shows up for max available. I allocate 700 it works OK but when I re-boot I find it shows 64 available.

What am I doing wrong? Why does 6.0 not show 1919 like 5.0 does?

Any thoughts? BTW I appreciate knowing how to find all you gurus.
Thank you, Tom Bufkin

I've repro-ed your Vegas 5 and Vegas 6 tests:

* V5 held 1400mb after reboot

* V6 held 700mb after reboot

I can't answer WHY V6 is so stingy with the RAM. However, I would guess that as Vegas 6 has more going on, Madison have decided it is better to give less available than Vegas 5.

Now here's the kicker. In Vegas 7 the same settings can be "defaulted" to - with my 2gb RAM machine - 511mb for Dyn RAM Preview. If I try and manually go up from 511 I get a Vegas warning informing me that going over the suggested amount I get into memory issues. "If this set to high, memory paging may decrease playback rate. So, kinda counter productive.

Now, in Vegas 7, I set and use the default Vegas offers. There is some intelligence going on.

Hope this helps.

As to Gurus? - well . . . .
