Chroma Key in Vegas - or another program?
 

I was reading through the posts on Chroma key, and it seems that Vegas is not necessarily the right tool for doing it. Do you folks use Vegas or some other program, or plugin?

I also wanted to find out if you can do multiple layers of images, and if it makes sense to do it this way? What I have are some small beaded puppets that I want to duplicate, and though perhaps I could keep adding layers of the same one or two charactors? Am I nuts? I suppose I could do something in photoshop, but I really want some action.

Any help or suggestions along these lines would be great.

Chroma Keying is OK in Vegas, I prefer using Keylight in After Effects. Multiple layers are no problem. Right click on you video track and duplicate layer.

A combination of Chroma blur and Color Corrector (Secondary) may get the job done for your keying needs in Vegas.

also, if working with HDV files, strongly consider using Cineform .avi CODEC as it works much better.

Yep I'll agree with Jim on this, use Keylight in After Effects... brilliant, and very quick to do multiple layers...Superb quality keys. I'd also agree that you really want to be keying in HDV or as Jon rightly suggests a conversion to uncompressed HD. You can easily downconvert the finished version to SD.

Render times are long though...
