Slow motion help (please don't hit me)
 

Ok, I watched Badlaa’s Footbag promo video and I was impressed with the slow motion he managed to produce. I’ve been a premiere guy for years and I was never able to use it for slow motion with good/usable results. So, here I am now giving Vegas a try to see if I can come up with some decent slow-mo. I’ve seen a lot of other good results with this software, so there’s no excuse for me not to be able to achieve good slow-mo. I’ve searched the Vegas section of the forum (browsed “slow motion”) and read a lot of David Jimerson’s advices, but I things are still not looking as good as they should. I’m going to post exactly what I’m going to see if I’m messing something up on the process:
- Went out with my Xh-A1 and captured some 50interlaced footage (shutter 1/100)
- Opened vegas 7 and went to “project properties”, on “field order” I set it to “none/progressive scan” and on “deinterlace method” I selected “interpolate fields”
- Imported the interlaced footage to the timeline
- Clicked on “control” and stretched the video on the timeline

But when I export the video I can see some sort of jitter/ghosting…I don’t know. I’m going to post an example so you guys can see what I’m talking about.

did u set the switch to "force resample"

At first it was in "auto", but then I did set it to "force resample"

The link takes me to a rapidshare page that asks me if i want to buy their services! Can't see any way of d/l'ing your file.

Cancel that - just worked it out. Not the most intuitive of facilities!

umm.. u mention that u cntrl and dragged the clip but u dont say how far along u slowed the clip...
For interlaced starting at 60i, u can easily slow down to 2.5x in a 24p timeline.
i wouldnt however slow ANY footage in vegas down to 25%
The interpolation engine, although good, just doesnt calculate it properly

IMO, try an app like Dynapel's Slowmotion
Interlace to progressive slowmotion works well, but anythign under 50% is gonna puke

Yes, sorry about that. It would look like you have to buy something at first, but it you have to choose "free" and then you can just download the video.

Forced resample is where you went wrong, you're supposed to use smart resample and set the speed to 0.5 in the clip's properties. You're not supposed to drag the clip out and stretch it as it would result in a wrong speed setting.
