Dedicated keyboard and jogshutter controls?
 

Does anyone use and like/dislike a dedicated keyboard/shutter control such as
Sony Vegas specific keyboard ( http://www.videoguys.com/logickey.html ) and seperate Shutter control ( http://www.videoguys.com/contour.htm ) or a all in one keyboard shutter control like ( http://www.videoguys.com/EZkeys.html )

Anyone think one is better than the other? having them together in one keyboard or seperate?

I think you will find the shuttle has a lot of fans on here. You can also buy stickers to turn any keyboard into a Vegas one. They are made by Editors Keys (google it)

I have a jog-shuttle and also the stick-on editor's keys.

I couldn't live without my jog-shuttle but could get by without the keys (though they look pretty impressive!)

So the question becomes
 

Separate jog shutter control or better on one? I may be leading toward separate controls incase I want one on my lap at times.

I use a separate jog shuttle that has a USB connection. This is the one: http://www.contourdesign.com/shuttlepro/index.htm

I've used the shuttle express for several years and will be stepping up to the shuttle pro shortly.
It really helps my work flow a lot.

What does a job shuttle do?

3 functions:
1) Gives you a lot of shortcut buttons. The Contour has a template for Vegas, but, you can also edit or create new settings for your preferred workflow.

2) Jog has been available on pro tape decks for many years. It consists of a dial with a depression - put a finger in the hole, turn to the left, back up a frame. Spin a few times to the left, back up maybe 20 frames. Turn to the right, go forward. Easily allows you to choose the precise frame for an edit.

3) Shuttle is a variable speed fast-forward/reverse, just like the scrub control in vegas but with a ring to twist instead of using your mouse.

Old-time trivia: Back in the days before good disk-based slow motion, there used to be video engineers in remote trucks with their hands on betacam studio decks, jogging to create slomo playback at football & baseball games. It took a fine hand...

It was easier because those decks had real jog/shuttle wheels - and I miss them :)
