I'm really looking forward to this WMV-HD disk. The stills look very impressive. In particular, #8 stacey you achieved the sought after shallow depth of field, and very nice tonality.

While we are on the subject, here are my favorites:

#3 - it was the first shot we got during the course of shooting (the 2nd day I think) that I was REALLY happy with and achieved the type of "film-like" images I was looking for, and it was so bright that day I didn't have much hope for this shot until I saw it in Vegas (up until then I was REALLY starting to question my choice of the HD10 as the camera for this project); also Ed did a really cool roll-focus (that you obviously can't see in the still) while balancing the camera on his knee :)

#6 - I'm in love with the colors of that shot, looks like a painting and not like something from a video camera

#9 - I really like the angle Ed got and it has a different color palette than our other shots, probably because it was getting close to "golden hour"

#15 - #17 - I love everything about this scene, the framing, the fake blood and the fake-hit (both convincing), the colors, the lighting (just a tyvek reflector and natural light)

#18 - #19 - See #6, same reasons, except this was the first indoor stuff that we were able to get that good (finally getting the hang of the HD10 indoors)

#20 - I still don't know how Ed happened to get that shot, I think on the first take. You have to see the whole scene to see what I'm talking about, but basically he was able to get shallow DOF with the car out of focus, but then as the car passes behind Manny's head he rolls focus while panning and the car becomes the focal point of the shot. Great stuff.

#24 - Technically not the greatest shot in the world, but I love it for no other reason that it shouldn't even be usable and it comes off pretty good. Basically we shot that, looked great on the LCD, got back and the thing was beyond dark. I mean, not even close, couldn't see anything. We had to jack up the brightness over 50 points, play with the contrast, gamma, and gain for hours, put a B&W filter on it (to kill the saturation, because it is supposed to be night and all), then run it through Virtual Dub twice to get rid of all the noise. Somehow it came out ok, which is great because acting and story-wise it is one of our strongest scenes.

#25 - I was really surprised we could get this shallow DOF with the HD10, the watch is not that far from the keyboard at all. Also probably the best example of the extra resolution of the HD10 (vs a DV camera), the detail in the watch and Brian's hands is impressive. This looks a lot like something on HDNet to me.

#31 - First, because "Baby" is a bad-ass :) The "motion-blur" is exaggerated with Vegas slow-mo, but I like the fact that the motion blur seems more intense on the background (which is also out of focus), but "Baby" looks normal.

#33 - Did I mention Baby is a bad-ass? I mean, his name is BABY for god sakes! Only a guy this mean looking could be called Baby and not get his ass kicked.

#35 - Because Ant's little girl is adorable, and because the colors are very nice.

Those are my favorites, comments / questions welcome.

Thanks for everyone's support, the people on this board have been great!*

Regards,

Ben

*Seriously, back in March of '04 DVInfo.net was the ONLY place with serious discussions about the professional use of the HD10. The guy at the local pro video store almost threw me out when I started asking about the HD10 (he was trying like crazy to get me to buy a PDX-10 or a DVX100A), he told me without hesitation that it was CRAP, and they even sold the HD10 (I'm sure JVC channel sales would love that story). He was very irritated that I wanted to shoot some test shots and hook it up to an HD monitor, to which he quickly replied that a) they couldn't find the component adapter for the HD10 and b) they didn't have an HD monitor (which I knew was BS because they had an Apple 23" Cinema Display less than 10' away). Of course, the good thing that came out of that excursion is we met Anthony and Emmanuel at the store that day, who went on to finance and have us produce "On Our Way Up". Funny how things work out sometimes.

How to make a web link clickable:

www.dvinfo.net/conf

Just make sure you delete the space between the "l" and the "]". Now you have a clickable link:

www.dvinfo.net/conf

Hope this helps,

heath
