LCD monitor at DVinfo.net

Ok I'm buying a LCD monitor to watch footage on as I'm cutting it. Question is can the monitor interpret my XL-2's widescreen footage thorugh any of its connections? The monitor has component, compsoite, s-video, and come other round one that I'm not sure about. Am I forced to get a widescreen monitor for viewing? And if so how is that monitor going to interpret 4:3 footage?

ok i was reading in the manuel and it says that if the tv has a S (S1) terminal or video ID-1 system it will play back the 16:9 footage. I'm not sure about the ID-1 system but do they mean S video port when they say S terminal? so if I plug into it via S-Video cable it will work?

It should work if that's all true. The ID-1 system means that the monitor looks for a special flag imbedded in the video stream which identifies 16:9 material. As long as the XL-2 adheres to this standard (I'm sure that it would) then the monitor should automatically switch to 16:9 mode when connected via s-video. There is probably also some sort of menu command on the monitor which would also allow you to manually select 16:9 mode.

Ok guys I took my XL-2 with me and went looking for a monitor that would interpret the 16:9 footage with no such luck with just using the s-video hook up. The only thing I could fine were a few select tv's that could resize the image from 4:3 to 16:9. I think this is the only way I am going to get what I want. I was hoping if anyone could shoot me some links of some places I might be able to order a monitor. I am looking for something under $500 if possible and something like 15 to 13 inches for my desk. Oh by the way a 15 inch phillips LCD that did the image resize was $529. So if I don't find something else cheaper than that is what i will get. Thanks.

Why not get a 16:9 native LCD if that's what you're looking for? Only problem is they're a bit more expensive. I use a Samsung LTP-227W and am very happy with it http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=328350&is=REG That model is also a bit larger than you want, but there are 17" 16:9 screens available that would be closer to your price range.

how do they look when dealing with 4:3?? thats my main concern, being able to see both.

4:3 is "pillarboxed" with black bars to the left and right.
