7D MLV Raw video now with 48khz sound

So the 7D has finally caught up. I've been following the development of ML and the 7d took awhile to crack, but for those on the sidelines, now would be a good time to consider.

The second generation of raw recording from magic lantern is now called MLV, it also now has Sound recording capability. So basically your 7D is now a APS-C raw video recoding cam.

Note that with MLV you can now have so many options with sound.
Headphone monitoring.
Split channels, say L-internal mic R-external balanced for ex.
Separate gain controls per channel.
Headphone volume
Option for 48/44/22 khz sound.
and more.

24FPS raw.
With 1729 x 972 16:9 resolution at 24fps, + Sound recording is now continuous until your cf card is full. (tested on 64gig 1000x)

50FPS raw
Current version can't do 60fps, it was off colored frames, only 50fps is ok. Resolution with continuous recording is 1344 x 540 16:9
Canon menu needs to be set at 1280x720 60p, In ML menu set to 1344x540. Set FPS over ride to 50 fps, exact frame method.
Personally, I see color aliasing more pronounced in this resolution. Test if its ok for your use. A vaf filter could minimize this.

As of this writing use January 7 Tragic Lantern as it has a better module than the current newer ones. The new ones have a bug that will stop recording at 10 minutes or 40gig.

Yes, finally.

I tested the nightly builds when they were working on the raw and last I checked they were still being limited by the buffer and it would stop recording around 2 seconds of footage. Good news for sure.

Re: 7D MLV Raw video now with 48khz sound

There is a new WINDOWS utility for extracting DNGs and WAV from the MLV files. This one is developed by a developer called Tonybeccar in the ML forums.
This has a streamlined interface and includes a viewer so you can view the MLV file before extraction.
It has other features but more will be added and features tweaked.

The nice thing about this compared to previous ones is that DNGs and their wav files are placed in individual folders.

Re: 7D MLV Raw video now with 48khz sound

High Framerates RAW+Sound recording Now Possible.
60FPS via canon menu (turn OFF FPS Override)
2.35:1 AR
1536x466 --1'53"
1472x448 --continuous recording

2.20:1 AR
1472x478 --1'57"
1408x458 --continuous recording

2:1 AR
1408x504 --1'31"
1344x480 --continuous recording

16:9 AR
1344x540 --1'
1280x514 --continuous recording

50fps FPS Override from Tragic Lantern

2.35:1 AR
1664x506 --continuous recording

2.20:1 AR
1600x520 --Continuous recording

2:1 AR
1536x548 --Continuous recording

16:9 AR
1408x566 --continuous recording

Note that the proper scale ratio is 1.66 and not 1.4 as seen in the menu,

1.4 scale will Fill up the screen BUT the image is still vertically distorted. (see first post regarding this)

So, a 2.35:1 ratio recording can actually fit a 2:1 timeline project.
