zebra substitute?

I shoot with an Optura 40, and find it suitable for most situations, but when I recently had to shoot an image containing extremes of light and dark, I switched to a camera with zebras. Do any of you with similar Opturas have a reliable method for determining when an image blows out, short of a light meter? Thanks.
