anyway to setup XL1 for 16bit on Audio 2?
I wanted to record in 16 bit audio, with 2 input sources through a beachtek. The best was i see to do this is to run one mic on channel R, and one mic on channel L, and dupe each channel in post to make them each "Stereo." Problem is, i can't use Audio 1, because the RCA inputs on the back conflict with my shoulder mount of choice.
Anyway to set it up in the VCR Setup menu for audio, so that it says, Audio Mode: 16 Bit Audio 1 IN: --- Audio 2 IN: LINE ??? Basically, i want 16 bit audio, and i want to be able to pull it straight off of the tape with vegas, i dont want to mess with 12 bit and making scenalyzer work right now. Thanks. |
What is this shoulder mount that block the RCA plugs? You couldn't use right angles RCA cables ?
If not, I doubt that you can set the channel 2 to 16 bits. But FWIW, I never been able to tell the difference between a clip in 16 bits and another in 12 bits. You can? |
Connect the Beachtek to the XL1's mic input (the stereo mini-phone jack) - it also feeds the Audio1 channels. Just be sure that the beachtek output is mic level. and set the audio switches to match.

hmmm Don...never thought of configuring my beachtek that way...thanks!

Thanks don, i may try to wrangle it that way.
Jean.. i'd thought of right angled plugs, but clearance will still be tight. I picked up a couple 3/8ths 24pitch bolts last night, to cut apart and weld together today to make an extender for the gimbal on my mount do the plugs wont be an issue.. I'm using a varizoom SP7 shoulder mount.. seen here.. http://www.adamgeek.com/sp7.jpg If the bolts i weld together to extend the gimbal dont do the trick, i'll try Don's minijack idea. |
Would threaded rod and cap nuts from Home Depot, etc. work as an alternaive to welding bolts?
|
yes, they would.. but home depot had none in the pitch and thead i needed.
i ended up using a MD recorder for the wireless audio, and avoided the whole RCA problem all together. decent temporary fix, i guess.. untill i can find time to weld and cut heh |
Some serious hobby shops might carry threaded rod as well. Maybe google on the concept to find a specialty mail order shop.
