NanoFlash Mount for Anton Bauer Gold Plate? Olof?
 

Hi Olof,

Have you considered making a simple 90 degree angle bracket mount for the Anton Bauer Gold Mount? I know I need one, and I bet there are more than a few of us out there who would like one. My need is somewhat specific, as I shoot with a Canon XLH1, and want to be able to mount my Nano in line with the center line of the camera. I currently use a FireStore is this configuration with a home made bracket, and it balances nicely.

Here's what the Anton Bauer plate looks like. You can see the two mounting holes at the right of the frame.

I am sure I can make what you would like, probably mostly of parts I have already made.

I use the AB gold mount myself on a few plates.

I could not make your link work.

The photo below is of the plate I believe you are talking about.

Pardon my ignorance in not getting the images right in my first post on this subject. Here are shots of my XLH1 with a Shure wireless receiver in position where I would like to mount my Nano, and also a shot of the Anton Bauer QDSR, a Gold Mount with wireless plate attached.

It should be very easy to make an aluminum plate that "wraps" around the right side of the
battery. And a set of mounting holes for the NanoFlash on the back.

I have several of the AB plates and a couple AB batts as well. All I need is the exact location of the holes in the plate for the wireless. I think I know what they are, I have an older AB for Betacam plate just like the one in the photo. I just want to make sure.

I don't think that the design of that plate has ever changed. If you can get those holes lined up using your Betacam version as a reference, we should all be happy. The only issue would be where to put the holes at the Nano side of the bracket. Perhaps it should be a slot instead? That would allow the user to slide their Nano to exactly where they want it for their camera/lens/battery balance needs, maybe something like this.

I have that exact plate on a Betacam.

The holes are exactly 3 1/8" apart and they are threaded for #6 machine screws.

I can easily make you an aluminum bracket that fits these holes.

Here are pics of my current setup with my FS-C. I now realized that I would like to have the nanoFlash mount in the same position. (And you'll realize why I want a PROFESSIONALLY made bracket!!!) It's almost exactly the same width as the FS-C, and, as you see from my pics, my mount keeps a nice, straight line from the left side of the camera body through to the edge of the FS-C/Nano. Great for handholding, as nothing sticks out into your head.

I've included a CU that shows the metric distance from the centerline of the Nano to the bracket. Hope it helps.

Also, assuming that there will be some kind of knurled mounting screw for the Nano, be sure to leave clearance between it and the AB battery. I' asssuming you have a Hytron 50 or Dionic 90 to test clearance???

I need one ASAP. I have a shoot on the 27th, and I want to roll in with your cool bracket.

The BEC group make some sturdy side plates (see The BEC Group ) I replaced my Anton/Bauer side plate with the BEC model after having the threads strip off the screws for the third time. Have never had a problem with any BEC parts.

For a Nano I'd assume you'd just mount the side plate to the camera via the mounting screws and then use heavy-duty velco to secure the Nano to the plate.

What Paul said. I used BEC parts for many years on my fullsized cams without a problem. A BEC plate with some nice strong velcro worked great for me holding ap a heavy wireless receiver, never came off-had a hard time trying to get it off when I wanted it off. Or maybe theres a BEC cup that would hold the Nano? Sorry Olof, probably shouldn't say that huh. ;-)

Thanks for the info on the BEC plates, looks like good stuff. However, I'm looking for a way to mount my Nano in the same position as my FireStore (see pics), and it doesn't look like any BEC product allows this. Olof is building a bracket for me now, and I should have it late next week. I'll post a report as soon as I have had a chance to use it.

BEC do have 90 degree brackets as well to mount your accessories facing backwards. They also make a bracket for the firestore, similar to the brackets they make for wireless microphone receivers.
