Background for instructional cheer video

I am filming a local cheer squad as they perform their cheers/chants.
The DVD is being given to the entry-level squads for training.

I am wondering what background to shoot against. I'm thinking of using one of several generic canvas/muslin I have that I use in my still photography business.
Anyone think this would be too hokey?
Previously we shot against the bleachers, but the strong horizontal lines of the closed bleachers was undesirable when viewed on TV
