Class 10 Transcend 32gb incompatible with HM100

For me, with two HM100s, I mistakenly thought the new 32 Class 10 SD cards would work - they format, but show red 00:00 for recording time before/after formatting...forewarned. I got eight, tried four.

Do you have the latest camera firmware? It supports class 10 SDHC cards; the previous version showed the symptoms you're seeing with anything other than class 6 cards. If that's not it, I don't know what it is -- my HM100 works fine with the Sandisk class 10 32GB cards after I updated the firmware.

Good question

That's a good question. I didn't realize there were firmware updates...I'll look into it!

Current Version: v106, Release Date: 2009-08-11
Available Versions
Version: v107, Release Date: 2009-08-11
This version adds camera support for Class10 SDHC cards.

Hm. Bought these Dec. '10. Whatever, there you have it...thanks Hamish!

Jeffrey -- hope it works for you. I have to admit that when I bought my HM100 mid/late last year I was surprised to find that the latest firmware wasn't on it and that the class 10 cards didn't work, but at least the upgrade was painless and class 10 cards work nicely now...

Firmware question

Where do I go to check out the Firmware? I can't find a location on the camera to see what revision it is. Don't see it in the manual either?

Firmware

OK I went into the JVC website and found this:

Power on your GY-HM100U camcorder and open the LCD monitor.
Insert a blank SD/SDHC card to SD SLOT A. Press [MENU] and then press [SET LEVER] to scroll to MEDIA SETTING. Press the center of [SET LEVER].
From MEDIA SETTING screen, press center of [SET LEVER] to select FORMAT.
From the SLOT SELECTION screen, press [SET LEVER] to select SLOT A.
From FORMATTING SLOT A screen, while pressing [USER2], push center of [SET LEVER]. This displays current CPU version.
Once the complete firmware version set is displayed,
use the data from the last column from each row and enter it in the form below.

For example, when the row shows:
Current Version:CAM 1.07
You should enter:
107
in the form field for CAM:
Select NO to update firmware by pushing [SET LEVER].

Please specify the version numbers for the following as shown on your setup screen

CAM: 111
ARM: 107
EEPROM: 052

I entered all my info the way they say to but their system comes up with the following error msg:

"We are unable to determine current version of software you have. Click here to go back and try again. "

Their system Sucks! Nothing like making things easy. So I don't know if I have the latest or not?

Firmware Update

Stephen, your camera is new and the firmware numbers you posted are the latest, so the message on the JVC website means there is no update available currently for your camera.
