Mini DV VTR near a speaker

In the process of re-jiggling things in my studio.

I have 2 smallish hifi/monitor type speakers - I plan to put one on top of my JVC mini dv deck. Is this going to be ok?

I was only concerned about any issue with magnetics etc....

Any advice would be great. Thanks

You have pretty much answered your own question by asking it.

You are probably unlikely to harm the VTR with stray electromagnetic fields in the audible frequency spectrum, however radiofrequency emissions are another matter. These may not be permanently harmful but have the potential to disrupt your work and maybe corrupt tapes in the VTR, especially if the VTR is rolling tape at the time. Electromagnetic fields are something you do not wisely expose tapes to.

There is precedent, largely anecdotal in past posts here of RF interference disrupting camcorders. The guts of your VTR will be largely related and unlikely to be any better shielded.

Physical vibration of the VTR is another matter. This may induce wear or damage to components.

So my advice for what it is worth, don't do it.
